This commercial is introduced by Baseball player and TV personality Joe Garagiola. About 50 thousand Chargers were produced in the 1970 model year. Hard to believe but true, more 225 Slant 6 cylinder Chargers were manufactured than Chargers with the 426 Hemi engine. 300 vs. 115 units. Who would have thunk? During Mitt Romney's campaign to win the Michigan primary in February 2012, the Romney campaign bought one of my vintage AMC clips for use in their primary TV commercial. (Mitt's spot is called "Growing Up." You can find it here on YouTube.) If you watch the spot, the second shot shows a Rambler wagon pulling into a driveway. That's the clip his people bought from me. At this time, AMC was in big trouble. When Roy Abernethy took over after Mitt's dad, George Romney, left American Motors, he tried to compete directly with The Big Three in size and horsepower. He lost big time. This no-nonsense spot acknowledges that AMC knew the American public had dismissed it as a boring, economy car company. The goal was to get them to reconsider American Motors. I thought I'd take the opportunity to show you the whole TV commercial. It's been digitized and color-corrected with amore. I'd love to have this wagon today. It's appropriately named: a Classic!

Mazda 626 Cronos TV commercial advertisement from 1992-1993. Captured from a VHS tape recorded January 13, 1993. Broadcast on CFTO TV in Toronto. In 1993 the Mazda 626 saw big changes in body style and powerplants since the 626 moved to an entirely different platform. It was now based on the GE platform along with Mazda's more upmarket Cronos and had grown enough to become a mid-size car. The 626 was again Wheels magazine's Car of the Year for a second time in 1992. The very first 1993 Mazda 626 was assembled in Flat Rock, Michigan on September 1, 1992. The car was known as the 626 Cronos in Canada.
